Lindsey Benolken

We are thrilled to welcome Lindsey Benolken, LPC, to The Gateway Institute’s Scottsdale, Arizona location! Lindsey is a seasoned Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of clinical experience, specializing in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders. Her dedication to helping clients overcome the challenges of OCD and anxiety is evident in her compassionate, evidence-based approach.

Lindsey’s clinical expertise is rooted in her early work in an inpatient psychiatric unit for adolescents dealing with both substance use and mental illness. This experience equipped her with invaluable skills in supporting clients in crisis and their families. Over the years, Lindsey has honed her specialization in OCD and anxiety disorders, she is especially passionate about utilizing the treatment modality Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT), an evidence-based treatment that does not utilize exposures but has shown in research to be just as effective as ERP. Lindsey provides Gateway’s Intensive Treatment Program with two modalities of either I-CBT or ERP. Lindsey believes having multiple therapeutic tools is key to effective OCD treatment.

Lindsey can offer a variety of services to her clients. In addition to the standard 1 hour therapy session, she offers extended sessions of 90 minutes or 2 hours which is often appropriate for clients seeking relief from OCD. Lindsey also can provide a 3-week Intensive Treatment Program (IOP) utilizing either modality: I-CBT or ERP. This will be one on one treatment, customized to your individual needs and can be done in person or virtually. Lindsey facilitates both the monthly OCD support group as well as the 12 week virtual I-CBT Skills Group. This can be a great addition to clients transitioning out of an IOP level of care, or for those who would like a refresher of the I-CBT modules!

At The Gateway Institute, Lindsey’s role as an OCD specialist extends beyond Arizona, as she also provides telehealth therapy services to clients in Minnesota and New Mexico. The Institute itself is dedicated to treating a range of anxiety-related conditions, including PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Phobias, Misophonia, Body -Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), and Co-occurring Depression. Lindsey employs a variety of evidence-based treatment methods, including Inference-based CBT (I-CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Behavioral Therapy (MBBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and SPACE which stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions; a parent-based treatment focused on helping parents of anxious children and teens. Her goal is to find the treatment approach that best aligns with your unique needs and preferences.

Lindsey brings understanding, compassion, and humor to her therapeutic sessions. She strives to create an environment where clients feel comfortable, validated, and informed as they learn to restore trust in themselves and move beyond fear.

Outside her professional role, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her dog and cat, embroidering, listening to audiobooks, and soaking up the Arizona sun. We are excited to have her as part of our team, and we know she will significantly impact our clients’ lives.
