Katharine Shiota

Katharine Shiota is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders. She earned her Master of Social Work from California State University, Long Beach and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale University. Katharine utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as the foundation of her therapeutic approach equipping her to provide effective and compassionate care to her clients. Her commitment to ongoing education includes specialized trainings in evidenced based practices, including becoming a certified diplomat of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and completing the Behavior Therapy Training Institute through the International OCD Foundation. Katharine previously worked at the Department of Mental Health for Los Angeles County, Kaiser Bellflower, and Octave with both children and adults.

Katharine believes in empowering clients to reclaim their lives from OCD and anxiety through a tailored evidenced based therapeutic approach and is dedicated to providing a non-judgmental safe space for her clients, welcoming feedback to ensure a collaborative therapeutic process. Katharine continues to attend trainings and conferences focused on treatment for anxiety and OCD and its subtypes.

Katharine enjoys spending time with her best buddy Rocky the silky terrier, hiking, backpacking, and stand up paddle boarding. Katharine also enjoys singing in a cappella groups, including Whim ’n Rhythm in college and Top Shelf Vocal currently.
